in the 80s and 90s, we started to see black and white dominate. in the late 90s stainless really took off and it hasbeen a trend for the past 20 years and it still remains a great neutral. blackand darker colors in general are making a huge comeback in the kitchen. we'restarting to see black as the lower cabinetry as an accent piece. a lotof that is driven by dirt and grime and fingerprints. so there's thisrichness when you go dark, especially if you're mixing dark and light. so we'restarting to see black stainless and black slate come into the kitchen for amore richer appearance. people choose neutrals because they're expecting appliances - such a big investment, such as
durables - to last a long time in thekitchen. so in order for them to be able to change out their cabinetry color,backsplash, wall color they have more creativity there with colors and theyexpect their appliances to really go with anything. so let's say you have veryneutral appliances and neutral cabinetry and wall colors, people like to add colorinto their kitchen with countertop appliances and accessories. so you'll seecoffee makers, tea kettles, toaster ovens that have this great pop of color. sopeople can harmonize in that way with reds. you'll see reds is one of thedominating colors for countertop appliances. we're starting to see other colorsbe introduced into countertop appliances
and that's where people can have a lotof fun with color.
