living room lamp ideas

(upbeat music) - [narrator] hey guys! welcome back to the channel. it's tresha and i'm excited to share another great diy idea with you. this time it is going tobe a modern table lamp and i found this particularone on anthropologie's website. it is going for $68 guys. i don't know if i want to pay $68 for it.

so let's check out another website. okay, i found another one on houzz.com and it's $56 which is a little bit less. it is a square shaped base,it's made out of concrete. you know this is really nice, but i think i can make something similarand i want to show you exactly what i did and i'mnot going to use concrete. so let's get started. for this project i went to the dollar tree

and picked up one of these empty boxes. you can find it in the craft section at your local dollar tree or you can pick it up at any craft store. so the first thing idid was remove the lid and label at the bottom. next place the box upside down. i measured the box andthen found the center point and marked it.

for this project i'm also going to use a diy ornament that i purchased from the dollar tree last christmas guys. if you have ornaments from last season, this is a good way of using them. next i removed the top of the ornament. then i placed the ornamentin the center of the box. using a pen or pencil, tracean outline of the circle. now i'm going to use my x-acto knife

and carefully cut out the circle. so instead of goingthrough all the trouble of mixing up concrete,i decided to purchase this spray paint by krylon. this particular paint has texture to it. it looks like stone. i went outside to a well-ventilated area and lightly spray painted the box. i ended up doing three coats.

for lighting i decidedto use string lights and i got this from magic night and i believe these are 4.99. this is battery operated and you have a switch on the side, but they also have one with a remote. but you can use any stringlight of your choosing. this next step is optional, but i wanted to secure the battery pack underneath the box

so i decided to usevelcro which you can find at the dollar tree. i determined the length of velcro i wanted and took my scissors and cut it. using my glue gun, i hot glued one side of the velcro strip tothe inside of the box and glued the other sideto the battery pack. be sure to make sure thevelcro is on the side that slides out.

next attach the battery packto the inside of the box. next i took the tip of the string light and fed it through the hole from the back. then i fed the light inside the ornament. afterwards, i attachedthe ornament to the box. next i turned it upside down and hot glued the ornament to the box. and here's a closer look. also i hot glued the string light

to the end of the ornament. now all i have to do is flip it back over and turn it on. what do you think? did this project spark any ideas? i would love to hear from you. add your idea in thecomment section below. thanks guys for watching. if you like this video andwould like to see more,
